Just put a pair of avid BB5's on my bike and the fronts amazing, can do gr8 endos' now ;-) but the rear performance 185mm is poor. I cant even skid the back wheel whats wrong ?
When it talks about offsett in the instructions should the blade be disc be closer to the hub or outside that ?
I spent about 10 minutes trying to explain how to set them up, then I thought 'Feck it read the instructions' If you do that the brakes work brilliantly first time every time. My Avid BB's are into their 2nd year and I still haven't bothered with hydraulics.
Er...I'm not altogether sure what you're getting at but I'll do my best to help.
There is always the possibility that you've not allowed the pads time to bed in.
Beyond that make sure that when you pull the brake lever the outside pad isn't causing the disk to bend during braking. To alter this turn the dial on the inside of the calliper so that the inside pad almost but not quite touches the brake whilst the brake is off.
As Adam has rudely said, get them set up correctly and they work. If you can't do it, take them down to your LBS and get the mechanic to do the job properly.
Oh...one other thing...you have got the correct spacer attatched to the calliper haven't you? And the bolts are all correctly torqued?
Ok, so the last sentance was jibberish, In my defence I had drunk a bottle of wine.
Many thanks for your help Dave. Thats a far better explanation than the instructions...yes adam I RTFM first.
Dave, There was no reference to the spacer you mention. Ive checked the instructions and can't find any mention of spacers either. No the bolts are not correctly torqued..waiting for torque spanner.
Ok... I probably didn't explain that too well, it was kinda late after all. By spacer I mean adaptor to adjust the calliper to the correct placement to work with the 185mm rotor you say you're using.
Okey dokey then! Make sure that you have the correct components to start with!!! Then having made sure of that, follow instructions in the manual towards sweet success and lovely brakes. If you get any more bother post here or send me an email.
