 Morning all,
Just a quickie to let you all know - I'VE GOT MY TRANCE FRAME!!!!!!!!
WOO-FRIKKIN-HOO!
|
 |
Do you have a pic of it?
|
 |
I'm still building her up Arnold - Pictures will follow...

 |
Had a play on a Trance 1 at the LBS yesterday.
Very very nice indeed.
Not, however, sufficiently different or better than my NRS to make me change.
Now a Reign 1 on the other hand.....

I had a blast on a Reign 2 at the dirt demo but it didn't impress me like I though it would. To be fair though the Giant guys didn't set the sag correctly, they took my weight and pumped in the psi to recommended by Giant. It just seemed far to firm against the Prophet I had a go on before. The cannondale guy spent the time with me setting the shock correctly, I also felt very comfortable on the Prophet almost straight away. My girlfriend tried a trance 2 on the Sunday and she seemed to think that it was very firm compared to the womens stumpjumper and the Trek Fuel she tried before the Trance. Maybe it's the Maestro system or Giant not setting the shock correctly. I went there almost sold on the Reign 2 but after a demo on that and the prophet I'm pretty much sold on the latter. Maybe I should try a Reign 2 again and make sure they set the shock correctly?

I guess the Prophets more like what your used to, not saying the Reign wouldn't or would be a better bike once your used to it.
Had a Quick Demo of a new Spesh Enduro with Fox 36's and thought it SUCKED, way to much stiction, but used to Coil forks so there would be.
Odds are I'd hate the Trance with a Air Shock to, at first anyways.
Trying a Suss Seat Post first anyway.

i rode a reign 2 at mountain mayhem, and did grow to love it. at first it felt very soft, but it really didn't wallow and bob, and on some of the fast fireroads a quick look down revealed that it was staying very firm. it was smoothing out ruts and roots much better than my trek liquid ever did.
i would like to try a different handlebar, an easton like i'm used to would be nice, and would like to try a slightly shorter stem. the bike didn't feel long though, the steering was nicely precise and accurate
overall, i was very impressed. that's just my first impression anyway, we'll have a more detailed report when mike gets round to it
|
 |
That and like David you hadn't spent £100 personalizing it to your exact likings.
And most like a few months of messing to get it just right to.
|
 |
i should add, the bike felt perfectly suited to me right from the of and many people won't change anything.
the handlebars felt odd to me, and i think they're probably narrower than i'm used to so i would stick an easton on, they're what i always use and just like them
i've ridden a spesh enduro and i thought the forks were smoother and more supple than my coil sprung bombers and didn't notice any stiction, but it was only a short ride

The 36's where on a Demo bike shoulda had alot of use to get them worn in.
Definately very slow responding, the Travel Adjust didn't seem to be working either, the LBS tried to make out it doesn't do alot, which is wasn't so maybe a dead fork ?? ( used to Vannila RLC's )
Bars, Stem, Grips, pedals and Seats are generally changed pretty early on with most bikes they should sell them without any to make it easier to pick what you want before buying, sure save some money.

 |
sounds like those forks weren't working so great then, the travel adjustment is a very nice and easy feature to use
i don't agree with 'Bars, Stem, Grips, pedals and Seats are generally changed pretty early' - most people, from the bikes i see a lot on the trails, change barely anything on their bikes

I'm 6ft 1" and I originally booked a medium on the Prophet and the Reign. They both recommended that I would be better with a large. The Prophet just seemed to fit almost straight away, better stand over clearance, the stem didn’t feel too long although I would maybe fit wider bars. The Giant was way too small in the medium (I had a quick go) and felt a little ‘big’ in the large (does that make sense). Maybe a little bit of cockpit changing and the Giant would feel right but I’m sure the shock wasn’t setup for me correctly (I didn’t have my pump to alter it). It’s a shame because the spec is great and it flew up the hill (for my fitness level anyway) but it felt too firm on the small stuff. I might arrange another demo. Dylan, I had a quick blast on the Enduro and loved it, especially the Fox 36’s up front, it’s a bit overkill for me though, I think.

 |
i just remembered that i leant a shock pump to someone riding an enduro on saturday, as it was too soft, was it anyone here?
|
 |
Well I didn't have mine and I rode an Enduro but no. Where were you guys?
|
 |
Don't think there going to admit to that :)
The LBS yet again, trying to sell knackered products thinking I won't know better is really quite stupid isn't it, there line was " the Travel adjustment on the 36's only alters it a few mm's " which is all it was doing.
Joker, I'll try to get another Demo from else where on the Enduro then, finance is paid off on the GT :) so could sign up for another 2years.

My Trance is now built up, pictures to follow.....
I've only had a brief trundle on it, bumping down curbs to test the shock rebound, etc, but my first impression is..... SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
Put it this way - never mind grinning, I was heard to be giggling at one point.
