Looking for reviews on these helmets.

Girlfriend had a bad crash resulting in broken arm and jaw (2 places). Now that she is plated, she wants some chin protection. Just wondering if anyone had some experience of these?

One of the guys that rides occasionally with me has one and it looks really good, more sturdy than a Met Parachute and Giro Switchblade, neither of which look that strong. He recons he can attach the chin on the fly - the parachute in particular. best price I've seen £115. Lot of money for a hat when a 661 comp is £60.

Not a lot of money when the result of not having one is surgery and months of delicate chewing. 7 months on gf has to use a nerve stimulator on her face to try and get the nerves in her forehead to work again.

661 comp is a little warm for climbing when we are biking abroad. I was hoping the Casco was better vented.

A mate of mine has one and swears by it.
Its very well vented, easy to remove the chinguard and feels very very strong and light.
Boneshakers in Harrogate have a medium in the sale at the moment for £97.50.
I'm after one myself but medium will not quite do me.

been looking at these today and they look really good, in some pretty funcky colours too

Spec's new helmet the devaint is a light well vented full face, just suggesting that cos I think the viper is a fugley lid :)

Giro's switch blade was great, why oh why did they stop making it :(

I like the idea of having a convertible option, just don't think I ride enough extreme stuff to warrant a full face only helmet.

Doesn't have to be extreme - you can break your jaw riding moderate xc

I eventually bought a Casco Viper and so far it has been great. I disagree with the ugly part. I went for the black option and think it looks pretty good.

Compared to my old Spesh helmet it is much more solid.

steve, thats very true, living where I do I have to do most of my riding through the town with a few off road bits thrown in, I only get away to the "good" stuff at the weekend. Mind you riding in the town is probably more dangerous than out on the trails.

The Switchblade was awesome, god only knows where mine dissapeared to... maybe in the loft under the eaves, possibly home to large eight legged scary things *shudders*

Boneshakers seem to have dropped off the dreaded google and dont show helmets in their product list. (I'm a 4 click man) Lots of German sites unsurprisingly show casco. Is it buy cheap buy twice? Do you get that lucky with a helmet? Did anyone see the cool casco helmet Chris Hoy wore at the World Track champs this year? Bit OTT for use by mere mortals but v cool
