i ve recently changed my singlespeed to an 8 speed, running xt gear. however, as i dont have a front mech, my chain keeps coming off when i shift to the smaller cogs. Any ideas??? dont want to run a chain device thing as i think they look too ott (especially on my nice sleek orange p7)... what about a chain cage??? DMR do one that looks ok. Any other options??? Please help!!

Is the chain too slack?

when you're in 4, the chainline should eb nice and straight, if not, err, dunno

The DMR speed guide is a pretty good cheap guide, or something more expensive like an MRP type 3.

have decided to go for the cheap option and use a front mech. Got a shimano STX for a fiver, but its neede a bit a jiggery pokery to get in running in line properly. Needed to bend the cage slightly and fit a couple of washers in between the two halves of the cage where the rivet is. Havent had a chance to properly test it, but seems to be doing the job so far. We'll see what a fast blast down my local rocky singletrack has to say about it tho!!
