 Andy,
I just had the very thing, not sure if its cause of your problem but here goes anyway:
Top shock pivot bolt fractured, because it fractured within the mount it still maintained pivot posistion and alignment, the nice chaps at LL supplied me a handful of bolts for P&P only!!! Be very careful when tightening any pivot/linkage bolt as they do shear very easily (however mine a broke during use I believe)
Also any loose bolts can contributed. (note point above obviously!)
Hope that helps

Thanks Darran I will look at it tommorow. could you see the fracture or did you have to take it apart?

Just checked the top bolt and it was ok.I will have to take it to my LBS if I can't locate the source of the clicking.

Still got my MC 50 (04) still going great been every were on it, well all most.. Spent a bit on her great bike..

I still be keeping the MC..

Love to hear how you find the ransom as I am tempted, what model you going for?
Since getting the MC50 I have pushed my riding style and feel I could be soon needing to go for a harder hitting bike suited for the rougher descents I am enjoying more and more...

Darran I have gone for a ransom 20 (yep carbon) had too the money was in the ISA and it need spending.!
Had a go of a test bike ransom 30 and well it was awesome climb really well, that was a 32.5lbs bike it easyer to set up and gave you bigger ball,s too. ;-)
Goingh to keep the my MC50 as it is a great bike.
Darren go and test one I think you like it.
One more thing why do some people hate scott bikes, bit like people not liking pace folks and hope brakes.

Nearly a year on & just done Merida 100 at Builth Wells.
So far MC50 hasn't let me down. Very few problems or even niggles but here's a list in case anyone's interested........
-Replaced rear tyre due to wear -Front disc caliper was leaking - tightened it up & it stopped! -Rear rim looking worse for wear after too many poorly timed bunny hops over kerbs! Surprisingly, no pinch flats, though! -Front axle cones keep loosening. Must tighten the lock nuts better! -Chain stretching but I noticed it too late & cassette looking worn as well -Bars due for replacement after falling on a corner (oil on road)
That's all, other than the usual adjustments of cables, etc.
I still love the bike but not looking forward to the compulsory shock service next month. Anybody had any experience of these?

Interesting - I too have had probs with the front cones loosening.
I changed my chain to a SACHS PC? with detachable link - it's been great.
Off to Morzine in a couple of weeks, so it will be interesting to see how the bike copes. Before that, I need to replace the bottom bracket and source a new seat (any suggestions?), as the stock seat has become all lop-sided. A 90mm stem is in the post too.
Had mine since last September, so I guess I'll be needing to do the service too...sounds like £££££.
I was in my LBS yesterday and saw a Ransom 40 - very tempted, but still paying for the MC50, so that can wait!!

Service for the rear shock is not a lot of money ''I think about £55''
On my 04 MC50 I have spent a bit of money on her but the wheels were still ok my mate has them on his bike now..
I covered 2000 miles till I need to change parts got 2800 miles out of the headset.
One good think is the bearings are a life time warranty so free to replace had to do that on the seat tube set and the set by the rear mec..
Still use the MC great for XC riding and a bit more aggressive trails..
The Ransom is a great bike more aggressive trail's with jumps drops and downhill it fly's, gives you bigger ball's too..! Have done some XC riding on it too but the MC better for that type of riding.. Still the Ransom can do that sort of riding too just not as fast..
The MC well stay.. Was thinking of selling her but she to good of a bike to sell.

 Hehe...
Just got back from a few days in Morzine (French Alps); not really MC50 territory in all honesty - the poor thing has taken a serious beasting! Mind you, it stood up to everything it faced, including a couple of full on downhill tracks (not at full on downhill speeds though!!).
With a pair of 2.3in Weirwulf tyres and about "20kg" less in the shock than normal, it coped admirably. The only real problems I had were with the chain jumping off when hammering downhill and a lack of stopping power on occasion (e.g. on long, long descents).
It's taken me all week to pick the flies out of my teeth, I was having so much fun!
Tim
PS: may have to look at another bike if I go back next year and keep the Scott for my riding in the UK...more expense!

Tim sounds like you had a cool time and hat's off to the MC50 too..
