Having wrongly purchaced some Lovely deore 9 speed shifers on Ebay this evening by mistake i'm wondering if anyone wants to organise a swap? I wanted 8 speed, my question went unanswered so i bid just in case. i'd sooner have them than pull out of the deal so anyone wanna swap 9 speed for some 8's Even just the right shifter?
I know it's not ideal but with a view to future upgrades you could set it up so that the 9sp worked you'd just have one shift in the middle that didn't do anything. I've setup the girlfriends bike with 9sp shifters, 8sp cassette and chain and the original rear mech (was a 7sp bike), it works perfectly.
I've got it to work as well as a 9speed setup, I was amazed myself, but it does work, you just get one shift in the middle of the range that doesn't do anything.
There's abit of play on the top jockey wheel which will help swallow up some of the discrepancy but I really wouldn't recommend any of the suggested courses of action. If you bought from an online store you could maybe ring them or email and explain your problem.
Dont want to take the piss but i have 8 speed on my old scott kokomo. The shifters are shimano but have no other badging (I know the rear mech i binned was acera). I would happily swap but they are at least 4/5yrs old. The front shifter is not working very well so rear shifters only. I have a 9spd rear mech already fitted and a half worn 9spd cassette so it suits me.
No offence taken if you tell me to take a running jump.
I migth actaully try moving the pinch bolt and cable routing to increce the amount of cable it pulls and ignore on of the clicks.
I'd prefer to swap it for something if not as good then at least in the same league, Lx or old used XT set. Seling them on ebay or here would be a good Idea, I'll see what they're like when they arrive.
is 9 speed a step too far, I can't be arsed with the extra cost of rings cassett chain et all. An If you've got it stick with it, if not don't bother sort of thing.
