cleaning vt linkage

purchased VT2. can you just unscrew the linkage for cleaning and regreasing ? guessing the VT is going to be a sod to clean. can you buy patches to stop cable-rub against frame ?

Or buy some carbon fibre style sheeting from motorcycle accessory places looks cool as well
