Does anyone know of any mountain bike gloves that are really well padded on the palm, especially around the thumb bit?

When I fall off (a regular occurence at the moment) I naturally put my hands out to stop the fall, end up with swollen palms just at the base of the thumb.

Can anyone recommend some gloves?

DH golevs tend to have more palm padding though can be a bit warm for trail riding unless it's winter

Cross country ski gloves are reinforced around the thumb but even warmer than downhill gloves.

Hmmm, I get pretty hot too. Trying to think if i could modify some myself

I have the same problem and have a pair of Altura fingerless gloves that have good gel inserts. Saved me getting skinned numerous times.

Mine came from my LBS for £10.

To make sure I get the right ones i'll have to get them from lbs so can try them on, visited one out of three possible lbs's and they didn't really have the right thing shall try the others soon

Specialized do a Body Geometry range which have decent gel pads on the thumb and heal of your hands.

Might be worth a look.
