can someone please give me a good reason to have a presta tube, i just can't ever get them up, and they're awkward to do anything with!

The nut closes the valve better than simply relying on the air pressure of the tyre thereby reducing the rate at which air will leak out of the valve.

Is that a good enough reason for you?

Just out of curiosity, what awkward things are you trying to do with them? I normally just use them to inflate my tyres with.

I had problems with schrader valves on deep rims, right feckers to blow up because the valve kept slipping inside the rim.

I now use presta, they come with a handy little locking nut.

Presta valves were invented by the devil, it's blindingly obvious. Probably says so in the bible.

Quality Threaded Nokian Schreader is the way to go, 18months in the back of the Freerider and FINE, without threaded, letting the tyre down to push the valve out enough to get the pump on SUCKS.

I think the last schraeder inners I bought were cheapy things from Havant Hypermarket. Or maybe Halfords, 'cos they had a nice blue dustcap on. Either way, they've been ok.
