Underwear in the winter?

As I am sure you all know, you should not wear any underwear beneath your cycle shorts/tights. I follow this approach most of the year. However, in the winter, even though I wear tights, my genitals get cold (even when the rest of me is OK)!

Hence, should I buy something like the Helly Hansen lifa boxer shorts? - or do I need to buy a better pair of tights (eg windproof): If so which ones do you recommend?
Don't get that problem myself

Are yo getting a lot of damp sprayed in your gusset area causing chilling? If so maybe a mudgaurd would help

Hmm, my bits tend to stay warm in winter bib tights no problem. They are Polaris ones though and rated down to about -5.

Think you need winter specific stuff. Undies will just cause chaffing and saddle soreness. I'd rather have a cold cock personally.

Helly Hansen actually do a bike specific Lifa short with an inbuilt Chamois now , you could wear a set of them to wick away any moisture but at the end of the day anything that reduces wind chill will feel instantly better . Wind chill contributes more to discomfort and the cold feeling than a lot of people may realise . Personally I dont wear any type of cycling short and at this time of year I wear my trusty Mountain Equipment Fleece Salopettes . For some reason I have never suffered from soreness or chafing even after all day epics ... maybe I`m just Lucky .
put it in a sock, secure in place with a laccy band, toasty ;)

Sorry

Maybe you could wear an extra layer over you tights/shorts, do you just wear lycra or do you put something over?

two layers of lycra, or something winter weight, I've got some legging things from *ahem* Aldi :) with thermal windproof fronts - very cosy, bum still gets cold from spray though :(

If you want some decent but fairly cheap winter bib tights then go to Decathlon. They're own brand winter tights are a good quality product and from memory are only about £45-50.
