anyone got any reccomendations for a good un, ideally <£100.
After one that ideally will hold 3 bikes, needs to be wheel supports as they are all monocoque bikes tilts to allow access to the boot, as its a hatchback strong enough so they dont bounce around etc
It fits all your requirments, and I highly recomend them - used it take take bikes all over - motorways, windy roads and it's been perfect.
Don't think your'll find cheeper than that - comes with a light board so don't forget to factor that in with some other models - you'll need a trailer plate if you've not already got one, and nowadays you need to supply a blood, hair and unrine sample, 4 forms of photo ID, bring both parents along, the log book, MOT cert, tax disc, inurance cert, driving licence and a bishop to verify who you are to get one made, so just draw it on a peice of card :)
cheers guys, looks like what i am after, just wanted some ideas on good uns for MTB's as a lot only work with generic bikes, and get all messy when you stick full sus bikes with fat tyres on them:-(
like the idea of loking them on and leaving them with relative saftey. Also means you can give em a quick rinse ina jetwash on the way home too (carefully i know)
oh and if you want plates with no hassle, these guys are in NI so you dont need the full cavity search, and they turn up next day for less than Halfrauds ones :-)
Absolutely recommend this one. Very strong (I can stand on mine!), takes 3 bikes easily, has lights included too. Best of all, it's only £90 - you might see the full price on the detail page but when you get to the checkout it's reduced. It comes with a 13 pin plug so you need to get a 7 pin to replace it or an adapter.
also do these just fit to the tow ball, or do they bolt to the backplate (i have a towbar with the 2 bolt plate). thought it would be more secure with the bolted plate
Will the frame staps on the take 3 fit on to moncouque or however it's spelt, frames? With the Thule ride on the frames are held by webbing straps so should fitt any bike you like.
the thule just fits onto the towball, I was a bit worried at first that it might move around, but it never has so am happy.
Discount: Bargains section (top left of menu on their home page). That link should take you right to it.
Yes, they fit straight onto the tow ball and it's hugely sturdy. Like I say, I can stand on mine and I'm a 13 stone lardy. Benefit of towball fixing is that it fits onto any car not just your one with the matching bracket. Plus you don't get the bracket causing problems with your reversing sensors like my Pendle rack mount does on my Galaxy towbar.
Frame straps are moveable so you can connect to anything though I have to admit that the V of the support bar is designed to hold a narrower type of frame than a monocoque but it still works fine on my kids bikes as there's a webbing lock strap to go with it. You could always reposition the support bar to attach to your seatpost anyway.
.... really? Not sure why it still works for me. Just tested it and got as far as the checkout and it still said £80 (£90 discount) but there's £4.95 P&P on top which I forgot about. Might be the Java settings on your PC perhaps?
Check out aiston bike racks (lnk below) I did all the research and found the Thule/Pendal leading brands to be a rip off. I bought a 4 bike rack (wheel support type) with light board for £129!!! It is very flexible too with the facility to half unit to a 2 bike rack.
