My sis asked me to buy a turbo trainer for her hubby for Christmas (a none too subtle hint about his growing waistline I think).
I don't use a trainer myself, so I'm a bit at a loss, but I do want to order one from chainreaction as they are so reliable and consistent with ordering - I don't want a last minute panic if nothing arrives.
their 'bestseller' is the Gist Ride Fluid turbo trainer here:
It looks good, but I can't find any reviews of it, and the product description is a bit sparse.
Anyone out there with experience of this trainer? Or should I stick with tried and tested Tacx Cycleforce?
n.b., it'll be set up in his office so storability and reasonably quiet operation (assuming he does use it) is a good priority. He also loves gadgets so the more complex and more buttons it has the better.
Looks ok. Doesn't look as solid as a Cyclops one. Check them out on Wiggle and I can tell you that they are very quiet as well because I've got one :) Similar price too.
Your sis is better off getting a cattle prod, and zapping his lardy arse out the door, because unless he is a determind man turbo trainers aren't going to do it. You need to have the right frame of mind to use them for any length of time at a worth while work rate.
I had one, couldn't get my head round using it so gave it away.
As JD said he needs to want to do it, turbo's do get boring so he'll need to limit the time he spends on it. Half an hour i would have thought is sufficient. I use my turbo for short sessions, as I have a Tacx Flow with some information feedback i find that helps take my mind off things. Tacx turbos can be upgraded to a virtual reality package at a later date should he decide that he wants to spend the extra to be more involved. Looking on the brightside though, get one you like and if he doesn't use it offer to buy it off him or swap it for beer...
