Flicking through mbr I came across a bit about fitting a chain guide and bashring.
I never use my big ring or the bottom few gears on the granny, so what are your thoughts on going to a dual ring setup and possibly getting slightly larger granny and middle rings?
i only rin two rings now, and im in the process of removing the large ring for a 32tooth bach guard. I dont miss the big ring as i dont do much road/fire road riding, and the extra bit of clearance will help whilst ridign over large obstacles.
See through e.thirteen Superchargers are best, then you can admire your expensive RaceFace chainrings through them. Bikes are for riding AND looking at.
I am running a 22/36 with an 11-34 at the rear with the e-thirteen DRS and bashring. I have had it on the bike for a few months now, and it is excelent.
The reason I went for it in the end was that I was sick of dropping the chain on the nasty stuff, even with a short chain and a short cage rear mech. The DRS is a wonder and I have never lost a chain since - even backpedalling. It's also super quiet, so you hardly notice its there. However, I was concerned about losing the top end, which is why I went to a 36 from a 32. This makes a lot of difference. Now I am only missing the top two (from memory) gears effectively that I used to have with the 44/12 (which I never used unless on the road).
This is a super setup for general riding and perfect for DH thrashing, but you have to get used to your new gear combos.....its amazing how you take forgranted which gear combo you should be in (i.e. mid ring/largest at the rear) when you see a gradient, only to find that your new gear combo is miles higher/lower than it was before!! Takes some time to get used to, mainly downshifting from the 36 to the 22 (requires you to shift up a bit at the back to avoid a huge downshift).
For me - well worth it to keep the chain on at full tilt, but for others it will depend if you find this is a problem. Clearance wise, the 36T supercharger is the same size as my old 44 ring was, so you are gaining nothing there. Grounding out will be less expensive rather than less frequent.
I have a bash ring, in fact I have removed all the gears and now run a SS (2:1 - 32:16) was going to leave the middle ring alone, but then thought that a bash ring would look nice (bikes for looking at and riding, and then smothering with love!!!!!)
