hi, i've got a pretty bog standard hardtail, and i need to upgrade the pedals badly. I just ride general trail/xc so i presume my choice is pretty much flat ones. i dont really want spd's. Any recommondations or advice would be great.
Oh and i'm trying to keep the cost to around £20. I thought about dmr v8's but they might be a bit big and chunky.
v8s are good pedals for the money, and if your not going to go down the spd route, big platform is good imo.
fwiw i'd save a bit more and get some spds, ime they made a massive difference to my riding ability, and although i was put off them at first, i'll never go back to flats for mtbing
Wellgo V12 copies are worth a look too if you're sticking to flats. I've had mine 3 & 1/2 years now and the bearings are just as smooth as the day I got them and they've outlasted just about every other part on my bike. They're about the same price as the proper V8s but you get sealed bearings, though they probably are a bit heavier.
You want Welgo Bear trap pedals from crc. They're £12, pretty light and VERY grippy, very stable underfoot, big enough to transmit all your power, it's almost impossible to lose your footing on these, even when absolutely caked in the thickest of mud.
had the Welgo V12 for about 2 years, and have not hand any probs so far! the mounts for refectors dont look very good, but ya know you cant have everything for 20 quid!
I would get a pair of Shimano DX flat pedals, very strong and grippy, I have just fitted them to my Orange Patriot, and they are best pedals I have had by a long way! Check them out at
