I have a Stylo GPX crankset on my I-drive and the BB is knackered noticed it on my last ride as a squeak managed to track it down the BB and found the left hand cup with plenty of play i stripped it drifted the cartridge out and cleaned all teh mud out of it and it is fecked. I dont think a shimano BB will work as the Truvative unit only has one fixing bolt which fixes and preloads all in one go, Where as the shimano uses a plastic preload cap then two clamping bolts. I have looked on CRC website and they dont sell them but they sell the Race face which is fitted in the same way will they fit (diameter of axle) ect?
Thanks
BTW if you have a stylo the barings are simple to strip and clean i would have prior to this if i had known seen plenty of warnings when i fitted my shimano LX so didnt attempt to strip the Stylo till it was dead i'll know next time..
The Shimano Hollowtech 2 bearings will not fit sadly, but not for the reason you state, it's because Truvativ (and the Bontrager chainsets they make) used a slightly different axle diameter, just to complicate things!
So, it's Truvativ or Truvativ. Andy's suggestion is quite a good one theoretically, the problem is getting the bearings in and out without trashing the cups. On the Shimano ones it's really hard to do without cracking the plastic cover, they're not meant to be removed at the end of the day.
Thanks all realised whilst thinking today at work that Fishers are the UK distributers of Truvative (not a lot hapening at work ;0) so a quick phone call to my friend at the LBS and have a set ordered (rather support him)
Andy its a cartridge and i have drifted it out i will have a ride up to Yorkshire Engineering Supplies to see if i can get a spair set for next time but i dont hold much hope as they have truvative embossed in the seal and an enlarged inner insert so it looks like they are specially made..
Nick they poped out easly all metal cup with a clip in metal with rubber edge wiper seal new set will be packed with grease.. I have had a Shimano LX bb on my HT for nearly 2 years and its still tight this BB is only 7 months old tops and yes the mount is factory faced
