Hi, all,

I am new with bikes and I need some help. Recently, I found an old Marin Palisades bike in the garage. As it is still considered to have a nice frame, I am thinking of re-building it. There's a lot of rust, but superficial. the cassete, crank, headset are working fine, but they are rusted. As I am going to change some of its parts, the problem is that I don't know which year's the model is. Certainly, before 1994. It is a grey polychromo steel frame, on the right seat-stay it says "race-bred", with white letters, it has a bright yellow rigid fork, cantilever brakes (shimano exage country), the crank is shimano LX (something, I can't make it out), the levers are shimano STI and in case that any of the rims are the original, one is rigida as32 and the other one is a ramaya. I checked the frame number printed at the bottom brancket, and the first digits are M905. then there is a gap and 5 other numbers follow. I mailed the number to the Marin dealers in UK, but they said that this is not a usual marin number, as it must consist of 9 digits, without any gap, with both letters and numbers. Mine consists of 9 digits but there is only one letter, M and a gap between the 4 first digits and the rest. So, what is going on? is it a fake? If it is, it is a damn good one! Please, if any of you has a palisades from that era (1988-1994), or just know about these things can u help me identify it, so I can have its specifications? It needs a hell of work to get it straight again, and i dont know if its worth it.

Thank you, in advance,
manos:)

if you're looking to get into riding, get a modern bike. then sell that on ebay to all the crazy people who do up older bikes

tbh, i wouldn't bothr with (at least) a 14 year old frame, but that's me

Hi Mike,

but i cannot afford a modern one. I have a cheap one already but i dont like it. i can sell it,if i could use the marin frame and have some spares on it, so at least i will have something better to ride. With the plasure of fixing it as well.
thanks fot your tip.

Just thought...

How tall are you and where are you from? I have a 1998 Marin Mount Vision Frame (Large) which I am going to be selling. Truly excellent condition due to me buying it and then having children (the Mrs that is). In fact, I have almost a complete bike. The only bits that are missing are a headset and a set of forks due to the headset failing and the forks going to another bike.

I'm open to offers and can provide pictures.
