I have just put a deposit down for my new ride. A 2006 Spesh Stumpjumper FSR comp. The shop I am buying from currently have a free upgrade offer on. Great I thought! They are offering to swap the stock LX shifters & Avid 5 Juicy's for XT Dual leavers and XT disc breaks! Im now quite confused as they get similar reviews and have roughly the same value. can anyone shed any light on which i should go for? I imagine most responses to this will be personal preference to dual or non dual leavers but any info would be helpful.
Thanks for that. I know this has probably been asked a million times but what is the general opinion on dual leavers or not dual leavers? Are there any mechanical issues or is it purely taste and riding style?
Not heard of many mechanical issues with them, and people who have gotr used to them really like them, but i found teh lever stroke too long for quick downshifting of the gears. I would personally go with tried and tested avid and separate shifters, because if you dont like the XT's is going to be an expensive alteration.
Can you test ride the bike prior to purchase? or another bike with dual control levers?
Thanks for the info. I will try and arrange a go on my father-in-laws bike. He has a Scott MCltd with XTR dual leavers. Not XT I know but am sure the experience would be the same.
I would rather keep the lx shifters but have the XT brakes, as my deore m525(with front 180 disc) are great brakes and are more powerful than my 185/160 juicy fives which just don't feel very powerful at all, and yes, they are bled properly before anyone asks.
The rear is good actually. I've put it down to the front disc and pads. Got a better rotor and pads also a goodridge hose too. If that don't sort it I will be well P!ssed off!
