mike how do you manage to break so much kit, i'm a proper fat bloke and don't have the same problem. what about middleburn rs7's with a good ol square taper bb
My saints are as heavy as the DMR chieftans i used to run!
I've seen a quite a few sets of XT and one set of XTR chainsets at bmx races recently. A brief enquire revealed they,ve not had any issues. Whilst bmx racing isn't as harsh as say street bmx it does 'cane' cranks with lots of sprinting and jumping,(although the landings are usually smooth).
"on the other hand If your a heavy lander, always breaking stuff, going big and going time after time, then it has to be Saints. They look ugly but they ain't half tough."
anyone who is rounding off the square bit in the cranks is fitting them wrong. mike, i've been riding bikes for years and have never rounded off a square crank without mistreating it. Most cranks will last fine if fitted well. i think you'll be fine with deore set, if you fit it properly and maintain them regularly.
You ride your bikes forward though Steve. Try hopping on the spot with your left foot forward then swap to the right foot. Do that a few times and then start doing more radical things changing your lead foot. Square taper cranks will soon start creaking.
Saint Mike.
Edits to add: You can get a reasonable BMX for not much more than the Saint cranks. You won't break a BMX. Mine has a one-piece CrMo crank set that looks like a blacksmith knocked it up after a heavy night on the beer.
