Can anyone help.
As a life long user of shimano spd my current pedals have given up the ghost and im looking to up grade.should i stick to spd or be brave and go for a crank brothers model.not having tried them im not sure but they look better, there lighter and the 2 models im comparing they are the cheaper. the smarty pedal dont look that strong? what do you think. for example
Shimano m545 or crank bros.Smarty or the candy c. also will the cleats fit on a spd type shoe fitting. do cleats come with them? please help

I'd stick with shimano pedals as the quality of the crank bros candy's don't seem to be up to much. I also found that the candy's were much harder to engage than the shimano's (even after 3-4 weeks perseverence). They're back in their box and are going onto ebay very soon....
From reviews on here i'd say go shimano rather than crank bro's ... tho my personal choice would be time pedals for good float possitive engament when clipping in and mud shedding ability

another vote for time

shimano for reliability
crank bros for weight & performance
time for all 3

Shimano peddles are just good value for money IMO.

first spd pedals i owned were candy. i am very happy with them - though I don't seem to be in the majority, my brother owns a pair and says same as all above reviews about diff to engage etc.

they also seem to need more looking after, though i have not serviced mine in almost 2 years

I'd say go for the M647 - But only because I have a set sat in my garage which are yours for a sensible offer! (£50 new!) IIRC they are basically the same as the 545 but with an improved cleat mechanism. They have done about 5 or 6 rides and are mint.

I liked them but since my knee failed I've decided to leave them alone for now. You'll need a set of cleats though.

Email me if your interested.

I'll give you 2p and a first edition copy of Razzle...

Shimano for durability - pair of 636 just been replaced after 8 years of use & no servicing at all. I've gone for the M647 as above & they are just as good but shed mud better.

If you want cheap pedals go to merlin cycles theyre doing M520 and 540s for £17.50 and £25 respectively ive had 520s 0n for ages and theres no problems(3/4 yrs)

ive also heard of the brass cleat snapping on crank bros as well

never had time atacs but there suposed to be very good
