My lad is asking for a new bike & it would be rude not to oblige but I can't seem to find decent reviews of kids bikes.

Am looking at either a Spesh Hotrock 16 or Ridgeback MX16 - does anyone have any knowledge of these bikes or perhaps something else?

He's not riding unaided yet & I need something fairly light (relatively speaking).

Got my 4 year old a 16" Spesh Hot rock last xmas. Probably the best starter bike you can buy. Alloy frame,forks ahead stem and bars comes speced with back pedal brake which I belive is the best thing for tiny kiddie hands (he is already drifting it into corners!) Also as you have may have seen they have well tough stabz (getting on for 1/4 of the bikes weight!)

Cheers, I must admit I like the Hotrock best & it does seem lighter than the MX16 despite the sabilisers.

Shame that Islabikes are in the midlands as it's too far to travel to look at a kids bike - nice looking kit though.
