I need to change the bulb unit on my Eddy 5 and I don't fancy paying Zyro £100 for the pleasure of doing this, has any one out there allready successfully done this, the reason I ask is it not obvious how you actually get insided the unit to change the bulb (and yes I fully understand all the warranty implications)

I wouldn't even try it if I were you. I think you'll find that most of the money goes on the price of the actual bulb. I don't know the price but I know that they are not cheap. Plus if you do cock it up that will be the end of that and you'll be giving out even more notes on a new light system. You could try dealing with Lupine direct but from previous posts on here they want all dealings to be done through Zyro even though they offer a pretty awful service IMHO.

Sorry, slight Hijack.

How do you know when your bulb needs changing?...... except when it goes pop.

I have a edison 5 which is putting out a very yellowish light..... looks like a halogen..... I've also lost some 1-2 hours of run time. Is this a battery or bulb problem?

you don't want to be changing the bulb yourself as it's full of gas, which i'm guessing you don't have a spare bottle of at home to refill it with

you'll have to send it back i'm afraid, and i know it hurts, i've been there

Steve.... how old is your light, and do you turn it off and on lots on rides, the bulbs only have a certain (quite large though) number of cycles

there's a good forum on the Lupine website for such matters

Not sure if this applies to the Eddison which may use a non standard HID bulb(?), but you can certainly buy generic (usually Welch Alyn Solarc) HID bulbs and fit them yourself in most HID lamps, the only thing stopping you would be getting hold of the right bulb and/or getting inside the casing to change it, you certainly don't need to pump gas into it as the bulb itself will be a sealed unit with the gas already inside!

Having said that the bulbs aren't cheap as others have mentioned (£50+) so maybe the £100 charge isnt so bad really if you retain your warranty etc.

Steve, my bulb is in bits, thats how I know.

Lupine have told a german speaking friend of mine that when you buy the spare bulb off their web site it comes complete with all the removal and fitting destructions, spare bulb is £63 plus postage, so not a life changing saving.

As for your problem, try to find someone you know who also has an E5 and try swapping bits to try and isolate the problem and if none of your mates have E5s go back to the dealer and try swapping bits, my money is on the battery but thats a guess

Edison 5 uses a modified version of a Welch Allyn (sp?) blub, so it is not a standard item.

Pete I guessed as much, I am very slowly coming round to the view that Zyro will be getting my money (it even hurts just to type that ).

As is ages since I have been on here (too many injuries and opps for me this year)I have lost track of the BM comings and goings but its alway good to see a few of the regulars from way back like your good self chipping in, cheers PB
