Er... liek it says; I wasn't able to write a follow up review of my Blackspire rings, and I'd have liked to as I now think that they're pretty poor. I've been biking since the 1980's ,and I've never had chainsuck like these have given me. Yes, I DO know how to set up a derailleur and keep my chain, casette and rings clean and tidy. These had solid shifting from day one, except when shifting from middle to bottom ring, which was incredibly poor, and wouldn't shift if there was any weight on the pedals at all. Tinkerings with cable tension, throw adjusters and cage ange couldn't remedy this problem without causing other problems to emerge.
Then there's the chainsuck: Put it this way, on muddy days, I usually have to walk up hills as I can't turn the pedals slow enough to allow the chain to slip off the bottom of the ring, and can't be doing with the grinding of chain and frame that these rings cause me. They ahve got worse, it's true, but they gave me chainsuck when new, and have done on every wet ride, even if only slightly muddy. As Ive said before, I've never had chainsuck like it with anything else (I barely knew what it was until I started riding with these)
I will be donating these to the local council tip this christmas and would not reccommend buying them to anyone.
Before you bin them take a file to the teeth and make them a bit more pointed. I'm using a Blackspire granny and it sucks less than the brand new XT it replaced.
Thanks John, that'll be worth a try, although my experience is pretty much the opposite of yours: my then new granny AND middle rings were worse than the worn rings they replaced.
