Are the Rockshox J3 SL fork a good fork to begin with?
J3's aren't oil damped so no, J4 or above.

* I believe, but all gets confusing *

Tora 318's or above is what you really need though, there 99% as good as anything else.

No oil? How does the J3 damping adjustment work?

And this relates to Saint HT2 Cranks how?

If they are Elastomer forks then you only have preload, which is bobbins.

Go Tora.....
I know Judy J4's have Motion control damping, maybe J3's have the version below of damping still then.

If they've got adjustable damping then they will do basically.

Toras are the way forward.

I have both(well Darts):http://wtxcr.fotopic.net/p37672255.html

(darts are the newer replacement of the Judy's)

The darts 2(on the SS) are no where near as plush(which suits me fine) but have 3 adjustments. Preload, rebound and Lockout.

The Toras have U turn, rebound and PopLoc Lockout. There far plusher and I can honestly say I feel little difference on a few compressions on my mates £400 rebas.Feel just as plush.

For the extra money I'd defiantly go Tora.
Fresh, thats why I said Tora's are 99% real forks, there abit heavier and lack the anti stiction coating, so the Reba's should react abit quicker ( But Reba's like Air, Tora's likely Coil so more than makes up for it )

So mainly just weight and bling factor.

Yes, His rebas are air-Mine are Coil After having Air before and going to Coil I much prefer them If i'm honest.

More plush action. Also I like the way there plusher/softer as you wind them out so soft at 130mm and hard at 85mm for when I'm pretending to race.

Yeah there quite heavy but make up for the added steel with no detectable flex and good steering precision.

So the J3's are Judys then????
Well unless the 07 range has J3's that aren't ??

They've dumped the Judy after 10years ish this year, there called Darts for 07. ( so could be a Dart J3 ? )

J3's are Judys must be 2005 or 2006 forks.

Dart Models are Dart 1(oem) Dart 2 and Dart 3. Various features are added by manufacturers on the oem models, such as lockout and better damping to price to a point and make it more alluring.
I thought OEM models had features taken away to make them cheaper so they'd buy them.
