I know the subject has been well discussed - eVent vs XCR but if you had the choice between these two jackets which one would you go for, both look pretty good and similar price, has anyone had any experience with either, cheers.

I know that I'm incredibly tedious on this subject but I really can't recommend eVent highly enough. I've tried various waterproof/windproof/showerproof jackets and could only get on with pertex as anything more waterproof just used to boil me up when cycling. I bought an eVent jacket in about Oct 2005 and love it. Breathes as well as pertex but is properly waterproof. Tough too.

Personally whichever I liked best in terms of fit, construction and price. I've never worn a waterproof jacket that breathes to any meaningful extent. Never tried eVent but I can't beleive it's that much better than the others.

If toughness and ability to withstand wear are your key criteria then your best bet is probably GORE-TEX XCR.

If low cost is your key criteria then your best bet is curently probably GORE-TEX Paclite.

If breathability is your key criteria then your best bet is probably eVENT.

Personally I like Gore-Tex.

Can this be purchased in the UK?

I know Carlos keeps on about eVent being breathable but the Endura eVent jacket does not have pit vents where the Berghaus does. I have the eVent jacket and 2 Berghaus jackets (Denizen & Sanctury) and the eVent is more breathable but if I'm going out in really bad weather I'll take the Berghaus's everytime.

What Henry said, as soon as you start doing any meaningful amount of phys no material can keep up (unless its just me being a sweaty git).

CRC have a Gill eVent jacket for about £70 - I have used it for 6 months now and have no complaints whatsoever - it's a top bit of kit.

've got the GE stormtrooper, and i'm not that impressed! sorry! its not massively breathable, its single skinned (easy to get condensation), and the waterproofing hasn't lasted too well.

having said that, its got some great features, the hood, thumb loops and bum-bag packing really impress me.

its the only groundeffect product i'm not hay with though, and i thoroughly recommend them.

you have to buy direct from NZ but it only takes a couple of weeks, they take off the NZ tax, and if our lucky, you won't get uk tax. its pretty good value too, and most items i have perform really well.

Another vote for the Gill eVent.
