Need to replace the pads on my Avid Juicy Fives. Any recommendations?
Avid pads?? Others?
And what's the difference between sintered, organic and semi-metallic pads?
I mostly ride on The South Downs.

Muddy and not so fast there I guess ?? if so Full Sintered!!
Fibrax's are my fav on CRC.
They do a semi Plus aswell, if you want a inbetween.

I've always used the stock Avid ones, always a fan of OEM pads.
Gonna start using Kool Stop Organic, as that what Stan's recommend for their rotors, but they seem to be fairly hard to obtain!

organic are crap. i normally kill them in one day. sintered are pretty good last ages, havent tried semi metallic
|
 |
What are the pro's and con's of each pad type?
|
 |
Sintered lasts longer, but heats up more so can fade on long descents.
Vice Vera on Organic, and Semi kinda inbetween.
Having tried all 3 I'm still unsure about a power difference really.

sintered are good for wet muddy conditions, but produce a bit of heat so not that good for downhill. organic are not to bad but wear quik as feck in the wet.

More into XC / all-day epics so sintered would probably be best for me.
What about semi-metallic? Somewhere in between I imagine?
|
 |
i expect so but i've never tried semi metallic. i supose you could try them all and see what you think is best. bit expensive to do that though.

TBH I've got to the point that I always use sintered (Fibrax from CRC bulk buy - 4 pairs at a time) and only use organic pads for holidays in warm regions - Alps/Spain etc.
Organic/resin pads don't last long enough to be value for money and aside from heat build up there is no performance difference in my experience. I once went through a set of rear resin pads from new in 15 miles. Not even in particularly filthy conditions either.

Fibrax sintered pads sound like a goer for me. Cheers.

I ran Shimano XTR Resin/Organic pads pads for about a year, never changed them, they never wore out, strange...
