I want to upgrade from my current Deore shifters and would like to go up to XT, I noticed on CRC that on some (M750's) the gear displays are removable. Does anyone know if they come packaged with a blanking plate ? I'm not particularly bothered about looking to see what gear I'm in, but can't afford the new XTR shifters.
I'm not sure about a blanking plate, but I removed the window crap off my shifters and just got a tiny blob of silicone and stuck it in the screw hole to waterproof it.. Worked a treat!
When you remove the cap you should have two fixing screw holes and one larger hole through which the indicator locates with the shifting mechanism.
Shimano don't provide any plastic blank caps, I just covered the larger hole with a bit of insulation tape (or you could use some MBUK stickers) and re-inserted the two screws.
The lack of alternative cover is a shoddy Shimano oversight, imo.
Nah, I bought a 200mm x 150mm sheet of 0.8mm carbon from ebay, one side has a perfect glossy finish. It's thin enough to cut with good scissors/shears and sturdy enough for any use I'll find for it !
