Hi does anyone out there ride with cycling shorts this time of the year ? if so are there any benefits in using them ? are they better then longs ? Many thanks for your help with this.
i'm using shorts with leg warmers. keeps the knees warm (hurt of they get cold), and gives the flexibility to cool down if needed. endura ones are only £13 on crc or wiggle. colder days/night rides are still in longs, as its still cool enough to wear them.
You need to protect your knees on colder days, riding with shorts in a cold climate will potentially damage your knees as things stiffen up. If you must wear shorts on cold days use something like Natures Kiss Hot Stuff, or even Deep Heat, to keep them warm and protect them a bit.
I wore shorts, and short finger gloves on Tuesday, today I wore virtually everything I own, I hate this time of year!
I've some 3/4 Bibs that I wear in 'intermediate' weather. Sometimes on their own, but mainly under some old Fox unlined baggies. Keep the knees warm and the baggies give an extra layer of protection from the elements and flying crap from the wheels etc.
Hmmm, 3/4s are a sound investment IMO, tend to find you can wear them in surprisingly cold conditions, if your knees are warm you don't tend to notice your shins being cold, or so I've found.
i find that too. i bought the leg warmers as i couldn't afford 3/4s, and they are pretty good. wore them in the BUSAs, and i reckon i'll wear them in the sxc this weekend. find them (and thus 3/4s) when its wet though, wet shins is really nasty for me. you also look a bit of a noob in 3/4s with overshoes too... overshoes weather automatically means full lengths!
