I've got loads of play on the drive side of my crankset and I wondered if anyone has experienced similar. I've dismantled and reassambled several times but after a short ride it becomes loose. The problem is on the drive side only, there is no play at all on the non drive side. this seems weird as I'd expect both sides to loosen since you tighten one side against the other on these new fangled contraptions. My local shop advised me to throw it away and put in a new shimano LX hollotech for £100 fitted. It seems a bit severe since the old ones are just over a year old (just outside warranty). Any ideas?
This one has the axle pressed on to the drive side so it is one solid piece. You push the axle through the bb and insert the non drive crank arm on the splined axle and fasten it. As you do it up the two sides pull together. I think square tapered could be the way forward. Did you sort yours out in the end?
Thanks Higgo. Did you replace them yourself and if so did you use the correct tools or can you get away with another method. Also where did you buy new bearings from?
To be honest I just blew my budget by a mile buying the bike secondhand so its got to be a cheap fix. I'm already in the doghouse.
I have Stylo team ones and have had a similar problem. The bolt that holds it all together needs some locktite on it over wise it comes loose. Not saying that's your exact problem but it might not be helping things.
