I'm looking for some advice on decent dual-ring chain guides. I've entered this year's MegaAvalanche in Alpe D'huez and want to replace my triple chainset with a dual-ring setup (there's a few long uphill sections so I want a better spread of gears than a single-ring setup).

My frame (an '06 Norco Shore 1) has ISCG mounts on the BB, but are they 'ISCG 05' or 'ISCG OLD'? and what the difference between the two?

Also any other advice you lot can think of to keep me alive during this race would be appreciated :O)

i'd get a medium sized single ring and a wide range cassette tbh mate!

38/40, paired with a 11/34t cassette will be better, more reliable too. i'm running double with bash, and it just suffers when hitting the bumpy stuff. i used to run 46t as a single ring, the uphills sucked, but at least the chain always stayed on

I used 2 rings for a week before changing to a single ring.

E-13 do a dual ring device, the DRS. Works very well from what I hear.

But I'd agree with the single ring idea, I'd probably go with a 36t and an 11/34. Maybe even a 34t, depends how fast you are on the way back down...


A 46 Mike!? FFS! I'm on a 36t on my DH bike.
Granted that's mainly for clearance, my ideal ring was a 40t and an 11/21 but most DHers run a 38t.

I've got my heavy Ellsworth Joker round Coed Y Brenin and the Climachx with a 36T and a road cassette without pushing.

Man up and mash those gears!

yer, I use a 36t ring / 13-25 cassette. Works best for me!!!

AHJ, try xc racing with the 46t and poorly set up gears and a 11/28 cassette :-P
