I run a Tune King front hub and it's very good but it's just a front hub all said and done. Finish is excellent but the fit of the skewer is quite tight (XTR). I've had Chris King hubs and in my opinion they are well made but over-priced for what they are. Yes pick-up is excellent but so too is that from a Goldtec rear hub. Both those are better than Hope and any Mavic hub too. I've just built up a set of the latest Goldtec Pro Competition hubs on Stan's ZTR rims running tubeless Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph combo and they are over a pound and a half lighter than my Tune/DT240S combo with the exact same tyres/skewers and rotors. Very light and very bling.
I've seen you say that elsewhere Hadge, and call me cynical, but there's no way in fook you can save >650g off a set of Tune/Hugi wheels just by going tubeless, unless you had some ridiculous rims in the first place.
I've got Tune King/Kong Superscharf on Stans Olympics on my Epic and Kings on 717s on my Fuel, both are awesome. Both wheelsets are built with Sapim CX-Ray spokes, the Tune ones come in at 1370g IIRC, could be a bit less. Certainly the most recent ZTR rims are lighter, around 330g each.
The bearings in the Kong are smoother and more free running than those in the King hubs, and so far they've required less maintanence. They've been subjected to a lot of bad washing routines at events like Mayhem and cleaned with a Dirt Worker repeatedly, but are still silky smooth, more so perhaps than I'd expect. I've been a bit disappointed with how much attention my King hubs have required, they do need a good tweak on a regular basis, and I've had to clean them out a few times. But, they're still running perfectly smoothly, they're light, they sound cool and the pick up is instant.
I'm expecting the Kings to last longer frankly, they're currently 2 years old, the Tunes 6 months old. If lightweight is your bag, get the Tunes. If durability bothers you more get the Kings.
