I want to try riding clip in pedals or whatever there called so I've found some shimano mtb shoes with cleats on ebay.
what I need to know is if I get shimano shoes will I have to get shimano pedals. if not which are the best pedals for begginers to get used to being cliped in
Generally, The Cleats come with the Pedals not the shoes as there different for different makes.
This means those shoes on ebay, the cleats are probably stuck in and the seller can't get em out.
Anyhoo,Shimano shoes will work with any other brands for clipless pedals-Crank Bros,Xpedo, shimano etc
I'd suggest Shimano M520(cheaper) or 540's(bit lighter)(if XC riding which I presume you are-DH I'd suggest something with a cage) These are good pedals since they have adjustable spring tension so you can set them so you can unclip easily when you are beginning and make em tighter as you gain confidence.
