I've got one on the rear, low profile tread doesn't squirm on hard surfaces so there isn't as much rolling resistance compared to other mud tyres also helped by its 500g weight and its a soft compound too which helps with grip.It sticks nicely in the mud with out spinning and is also good in normal and dry conditions.I'm going to get one for the front now, really impressed with this tyre as it more or less handles everything.
A mate has had a couple and he likes them too. What MTB raved on about them recently in a review and came top in their test for winter tyres.
I think they're a superb winter tyre, there are better mud specific tyres, but the Mud Xs handle roots and things much better than most 'proper' mud tyres. Recommended.
Are they really that good Nick? I ran my nics almost all last winter as the trailwreckers are just too mud-specific & have been looking for a more all-rouund winter tyre.
I've heard good things about Medusa's & Black Sharks but the Bonty seems to win out on reviews.
I have some 1.5" Black Sharks, which are unbeatable in proper mud, but absoultely dire at everything else. I think the Mud Xs are much better than the Nics I must admit, will probably change mine sometime before too long!
Nobby Nics are good all rounders but come unstuck when the going gets wet & muddy. The Bontrager Mud X stays put no matter what, been impressed with mine.
If you want something fast and grips on rocks and roots that handily work in mud still damn good but not as good as a full on mud tyre, then the Spech STORM 2.0 Pro looks PERFECT!!
