Prefer 4 similar lights for just over that price, all outputting 150lumens each, so 600L fully on compared to your puny 215
That run time quoted, is on Li None rechargeable batterys, look at 1hour on rechargeables 850Ma ones.
Honestly, buy a batch of C2's £11 a pop off that site, 2 on your helmet, 2 on your bars, and vary how many on for what your riding to extend run time, and just buy 20 CR123a batterys
1 on my head and 1 on my helmet is fantastic, so when I double it
I recently took delivery of one of these Fenix L2D Q5 CE chappies and put it on my bars for a little night time shenanigans. Most impressed. It looks brighter than my Blackburn System X6s, costs less than a fifth of what they cost, and weighs less than a ninth of their weight. Best of all, taking 2xAA batteries means they're a sure bet for night enduros, as you just need some spare, charged-up AAs in your pack to see the night through with no recharging worries. £30 well spent!
A riding buddy got a Fenix recently, and it's quite impressive on Turbo mode, but it only has a 1hr burn time at that intensity. It drops off to 150 lumens on Hi, but even that's pretty good. It runs for days on strobe apparently!
I picked up a 200 lumen Cree P4 with OP reflector for £28 posted from ALLTEAMGO, that runs on alkaline AA's for up to 4 hours, and 2800mah NiMh rechargables for upto 6 hours. I've not had it drop off, or run out since my 1st use on new rechargable batteries, and I had alkalines to put in just in case they needed a few charge cycles to get them going.
That's the one. I've got 12 cells that I charge in rotation. It's quite a tight spot, but the halo is good. It's better than the Exposure Joystick I had on test previously.
I've got an L2D and have used a few times helmet mounted for night riding by itself. Generally it is pretty good. I didn't even need the turbo mode really (it has three normal brightness modes plus a turbo and two strobe modes - one on turbo). Problem is it is quite a spot in the middle which makes seeing how high roots are etc hard as there is no shadow. Also, got a bit of neck ache with it as you are always trying to compensate as it is never quite at the right level. With 2700mAH NiMH batteries it will last a couple of hours at least on the level I was using.
On Saturday though I picked up one of the new Hope Vision 1LED's. Bar mounted that with the Fenix on the helmet and seems absolutely perfect. The Hope has a good spread of light so isn't as spot bright as the Fenix, but with the Fenix on the helmet singletrack can be riden at near daylight speed I reckon.
Did think about building my own, but with all the hastle I decided on this set up and I reckon for £120 (I had the batteries and charger anyway) I reckon I've got a near perfect cost/performance set up. Sure you can get more light, but it costs, and similar rechargable units are much more expensive. The Joystick Maxx is £160 and not as bright as the Fenix for example.
Yes, I compared my mate's Joystick Maxx with my Fenix and the Fenix seemed brighter. It wasn't a particularly rigorous test - just in the back garden, but it did seem brighter, which pleased me no end. I'm going to use the Fenix on the bars and a Silva L1 on the lid, which is a mega cheap combo. My Blackburn System X6s are, in effect, relegated to back-up status now.
I've got a C3 nice build quality, good run time but @50lumens.
I've got 1 of These on order, should be around 600lumens realistically, a sites got photo's of it comparing to a dinnote 600L and the output is near identical if not slightly, very flood like, for a fraction the cost of the 600L to!!
Should be with my post tommorow so I'll let you know.
Waiting on the CREE 4 LED LED's though MC E's or something, 750lumen and they'll make a better Spot / long distance light, should leave the P7's for bike lights for dead.
