Am hoping to do at least one of the 24hr races this summer, and obviouslt since I'm not that keen on carrots I'm going to need some lights. I've narrowed it down to te following on terms of a limited budget (so no suggestions of Lupine Bettys please, I'll never be able to afford them):
Hope Vision LED, Blackburn X8 Double, Use Joystick or Enduro MaXx.
£200 is the absolute most I can justify, so if there's anything else I haven't considered, then feel free to suggest it.
I just got a joystick maxx and think it's great but i reckon it works best helmet mounted alongside a conventional bar set up as well. The Enduro Max looks good and is a very tidy set up (no cables). My mate has just ordered the hopes and i've heard they are good but i've read some dodgy reviews of various blackburn lights (although i'm sure some people will like them).
If you hadn't noticed, Wiggle are doing lights at 20% off this month so you can get a good set of lights at a decent price. Exposure Race maxx is £184, the Enduro one is £240 and i don't think you'd find it sub £200 anywhere?
The hope Visions are up to £168 for all different versions and the Joystick Maxx is £128 (which as i paid £145 a week ago would upset me if it hadn't been a present from my bird!)
I'm tempted by another Joystick just because it's so useable - weighs only 76grams!!!Can't even tell it's on the helmet.
Depends when you need 'em. The new '08 Hope's are out soon with better output & longer run times than the current ones. I'm happy with my Hope LED's + helmet lamp & get min. 3.5 hours run time on the Epic battery.
Fianlly plumped for the Hopes - went for the endurance option with the spare battery. Now all I need to know about is appriate helmet lights - Do I need another Gucci full-on laser beam of a light, or will I able to get away with something like a BLT Ultra Doppler LED jobbie? sorry about all the questions, but I know bu**er all about night riding!
The BLT Ultra Doppler, over volted light is SHITE, run time is nothing and the output with fresh batterys is really poor, DO NOT TOUCH 1. Mate sent his back to wiggle, then sent him another 1, the same
( the 4watt one, with batterys inside, not in a stick )
I've just started using this Fenix as a helmet light & it seems pretty damn good to me. Decent light output, reasonable depth & 2+ hour run time on a set of AA rechargables. The 'lockblock' option is ok for securing it too with minimal faffing.
(If you decide on one from Photonshop mention STW & you'll get a freebie too)
