I'm not quite into disc brakes, but I'm looking to replace my (hayes 9 ) disc brakes and I'v
been recommended Hope mini’s for my Kona Coilair. Would that work well or should I
consider something else? All the conflicting opinions keep confusing me...
Thanks in advance
Tom
PS! I'm not loaded and like the thought of a cheaper set of brakes, though I'd rather pay more for a hasslefree product - so feel free to recommend other products
Hope mono series are a little harder to initially set up than eg avids however they are much easier to maintain in my experience (bleeding and pad change) and are generally better built and better looking. I had mono mini's for the XC and use 6ti on the DH bike I have had absolutely no problem with any of them. I'd recommend the mono m4 (which I just upgraded the DH from) you can get them second hand for around 130 and they will handle pretty much anything.
I would typically run a M4 on the front with a Mini on the rear, I'd use the standard rotors 180 on the front with a 160 on the rear, or a 140 on the rear if you can still get them.
Hi . I have had both .. For the larger rider or if you do the alps then M4 ,more power ,more control, i had mini's and changed to M4 but i do go 16 stone!
