Yo! have solved my own problem, good selection of 'otterbox' and 'peli' protective cases available from 'Rugged Peak Ltd' Very helpful on the 'phone , check them out, also 'amazon' for sports headphones .
ive got a.n. other brand of mp3 thats about the same size as the nano ...its in a silicone case on a lanyard and i put it round my neck and between my top and baselayer but then again looking at my girlfriends nano theres no place to thread a lanyard through .... good design move by sony i reckon ...
