I second , third and fourth the Time pedals. I use them on all my bikes and they last for ages and need practically no maintenance. As for your feet getting cold I think it is just a fact when using spd style pedals that you have a very good cold conducting material in close proximity to your foot (ie the cleat) and you also have less insulation there too because of the recess in the shoe.
I like Times (been using them pretty much since they came out) but the current cleats seem to wear much more quickly, so lay in a spare set. I've just worn a set down to nothing in three months, which I'm sure wouldn't have happened a few years ago.
Honestly not that far. I replaced the last lot in mid-Nov after about six months' use (pic), but the routes I did in that six months required a fair bit of foot slogging in places, so I wasn't overly surprised. However, the current set are now in a similar state after only a few weeks' commuting and one tour (c.2700km riding, plus day-to-day off-the-bike walking, as the sandals were the only footwear I had). I'm certain they used to last longer than that. I'd still use Times over the alternatives, but...
Had some old big platforms in the shed and stuck them on today - feet seemed ok, they just got cold all over now and again but no numbing cold patches on bottom of feet, despite the weather.
Only problem was I couldn't use the pull up on the hills as feet kept going faster than pedals
Still - I'm gonna invest in the Times me thinks and get them ordered now.
Feet just got cold all over (It is winter after all) with no localised numbing that I experienced with the shimano's.
The Times are a tad harder to clip out but you get used to it and you just learn to wrench your foot out harder. Not once did I experience clip out whilst pulling up the hills. When your in...your in
Great on uphills if you happen to stop as the platform allows you to get going again...superb pedal for £25 ... Might invest in some other times when I get used to these for summer.
