Actually bike theft is pretty rife here where I live what with Leipzig being a big university city and it being the number one mode of transport for all students here. There is always literally thousands of bikes in the 'bike park' near the uni all locked to the bike rails. Last year some thieves procured a lorry with a crane at night and took a couple of hundred bikes complete with the bike rails they were attached to.Loads of people saw them but thought they were from the city. A good friend of mine's bike was also locked there but his bike was so bad they only stole the lock.
