Just ordered a new rear wheel with a pro II hub and since my old wheel was centre-lock I now need to buy a new 180mm 6-bolt rotor.
So, should I just geta bog-standard XT 6-bolt or is it worth spalshing a bit more on something like a Hope floating or Formula etc? (front rotor is currently XTR if that makes a difference)
Yeah, the shimano 180 6 bolt rotors ain't that hot, basically because they don't seem to clear well, feeling a bit like v-brakes when wet as you have to wait for the water to be shed before power comes in. The formula 180 are better, good discs.
I suspect the aztec you posted may not clear water well either having very few holes.
Don't think they do - I presume the adaptor is to take the larger circumference 6-bolt pattern down to the smaller centre-lock so it wouldn't be possible to do it the other way
i've got a 180mm rotor from imperial, available at mtb-direct.co.uk. seems pretty good tbh, and only about £12... i'll be putting them on my other bike soon.
I have been using the imperial discs F & R for 12mths now. Havent had any complaints other than the weight of them. For the money they are very good value for money
I'd just say - It's your bike, spend what you've got!
I'd like to say that I wouldn't think it really matters what your rotors looks like. So long as they work. However, when I think back to my first discs they were MPH3 and they were pretty fugly rotors. I never did swap them but also I would never have chosen them looking like that!
I know people say 'it's not about the bike' but it sooooooo is. Bought massivly oversized rotors for my bike, yes they are a little heavy and they are wasted on XC but they look the nuts.
can give a thumbs up to Hope floating, but watch your fingers they are proper sharp and nearly lost a finger tip fettling the bike.
