Cateye Cordless 3 not registering

Having a weird prob with my Cordless 3 computer(had it for about 4-5 years but didn't really use it much). It is not registering any speed etc on the computer itself. Pretty common thing I thought so after checking distance from sensor and distance between magnet and sensor(had diff distances including the magnet touching the sensor slightly), no joy.

Then thought it was the battery so replaced both batteries(in sensor and computer). Still no joy. Now for the weird part, had my cycle computer near my pc in front of the monitor. Normally, without use, it will go into sleep mode. Sometimes though, it comes up with the mph screen(obviously shows zero). Seems something has woken it up. This leads me to believe it is not the computer causing the prob.

Any ideas? Or is it time for me to bite the bullett and get a new bike computer and if so which one.

Am starting training again as my brother's wedding is in july and need to loose some poundage before it.

losing weight for a wedding, sure you're not the bride?

everyone's a comedian

But seriously, I've been meaning to reduce my beer belly for a while anyway and his wedding just gives me a date to focus on so I have to get my ass in gear. Will also mean that the ground effect stuff I've got which is a little snug on me will actually fit again.

take the sender off the fork and use a magnet in your hand can you hear a click as you pass the magnet in front of it??

the spedo unit isn't encoded as such any EMF can set if off try using a mobile phone close to it,,

if the send clicks hold the unit close to the send and try the magnet again..

Take sender off the bike and put somewhere warm with the battery out and cover off, windowcill etc, it may have a bit of moisture in it.

Test the sender battery, or try nother one some batterys are dead to start with.

I have a transmitter unit I don't need if that's any help (actually a #7 transmitter, but it'll work with a #3 bar unit).

If i recall the Cordless 3 had quite a few problems and was quickly replaced with the Cordless 7.  I had the same problem with mine and it has been sat in my drawer ever since. The 7's seem pretty good and i've had no problem with them and also the Micro Wireless have been good (i have two). In my experience i would avoid Sigma as i've had nothing but trouble with them. Bought 2 a few months back (one for me and a mate as they were about half price in Decathlon), he has thrown his in the bin and i tried mine for the first time the other day and it just won't work anywhere near other units or background signal of any description. Bit poor for a Unit with an RRP of £40.

There was a whole batch of Cordless 3's with dodgy sender units.

Unfortunately Zyro / Cateye did not do a recall and will not warrant it now because it is over 2 years ago.

We had about 8 with the dodgy units at the time.

You can buy a new sensor unit. They are £18.99 inc. new battery.

The newer Micro / Vectra unit is also compatible.

I hope this helps a little.

Neil
