Recommend me some shoes

Looking to get my first pair of SPD shoes. At the moment I have double sided shimano pedals which are flat one side and clipless the other. These suit me fine at the moment as the flats are great for nipping to the shops and clipless for proper ride.

Want to start using the clipless part of the pedals so looking for some good shoes.

I want some that will be ok for walking in and not look out of place in a pub.

Am going to do a british heart foundation ride round the isle of wight in september(70 miles) so thought clipless would be better for me and if I start now, I will be used to them in september.

Budget-wise I can't really go above £100 max(prefer closer to £50 but I want them to last so could get up to £100 if needed).

Any suggestions?

Also, are there many different types of cleats? Which are best?

loads of shoes in the price range.

I have always found the north wave shows to be very well made and comfortable

i would think about when you ride, if its only in the summer, then something lighter and cooler may be better, their are plenty of cheap shoes from 661 that meet this, or if you want something that will be ok in the rain get something a bit stronger.

i have some light weight race style shoes that are ok to walk in and i just wear waterproof socks in the winter, for serious winter riding i have some northwave trainer style shoes that again i wear with waterproof socks,

But for £50 they should be good shoes.

specialised taho, should suit your needs, and the specialised bg stuff does seem to work.
Ripped the sole off my shimano ones last week and finished one of them off yesterday, so just ordered a pair of shimano MT31, for 29.95, from Merlin .co.uk.

FOR SALE,

left foot shimano shoe, with spd cleat, good condition , amputation of sole of right shoe forces sale, one owner.Lace included.

your best bet would be to go in to a store and try a few pairs on and see which fit best

My experience is go for something with 2/3 straps and avoid lace ups. due to the SPD action you want the shoe to be tight around your ankle. My first pair of shoes was the Shimano lace up ones which i think are discontinued. They sucked, especially learning to use spds, as my foot would move in the shoe rather than clip out. I now bought some Northwave Lizards which are great, very light and and breathable. (going to struggle in the wet) but i will just get waterproof socks for them.

But seriously in your price range you could get a really decent shoe (not sure if they will look good in the pub, but if you in cycling gear you will look cool anyway )
