I have the chance to purchase a Santa Cruz chameleon as an upgrade over my current 2005 GT avalanche 1 ( this has been a great bike , highly recommended if you are thinking about one).
Any how what size chameleon do I get I'm 6' 2.5" in my bare feet and 6' 3" in my riding shoes so looking at the cruz website that puts me on an extra large as large is upto 6' 1".
I will mostly be trail riding on the bike.
Sowhat do you think?.........any help or info from current owners appreciated.....
I'll go measure mine. I think it's a medium and I'm 5'11". I like my frames slightly on the small side tho'.
It's a fantastic frame, it jumps well, descends like no other hardtail I've ridden and rails berms like a World class 4X bike. It's never gonna climb like an XC bike but you'll get there, it's a decent weight and you'll have a big smile on your face when you finish your ride.
Put a good strong back wheel on it, the rear end is super stiff and it'll eat XC rims at one helluva rate. I had a pair of old 517s on various XC bikes, great wheels that stayed round and true for years, a couple of rides on the Chameleon and there's a huge flat spot on the back and a couple dings.
It measures 14" from BB to toptube and 16" to the top of the seatube. With a 21 3/4" toptube.
"i trust youve had the pleasures of smoking full sussers on the descents".
Oh yes! We went to Laggan last year during the World Champs. Whilst stopped fixing a puncture we got passed by three guys fully armoured on freeride bikes. 10 minutes later they were stopped looking at lines on a rocky chute, we came blasting past in a tight 8 man train, about 2 foot from the guy in front, we didn't even dab the brakes just trusted the guy up front to get it right and all launched it on hardtails.
They weren't to know the guy leading's capable of winning national dh races in experts and we were like lemmings stuck to his back wheel
I once had to use the an old Azonic hardtail for a dh race, 'cause my big bike was cracked. I took great pleasure in beating a mate on his £3000+ Brooklyn Racelink. Sadly that frame died just this week the threads in the BB shell were shot and at £70 seven years ago it's not worth saving, no disc mounts on it either.
