A shop not far from me deals with Solid bikes and frames

don't know much about them apart from they're German

Yup, very good bikes, just not very well known over here.

We rode Bringewood DH course when the Solid DH team were riding -  they seemed to be riding their bicycles pretty damn quickly indeed!
