I'm going to treat myself and buy a kick ar*e set of 100mm front forks. The problem is I was all set on the FOX F100 RLC's and then the new Rock Shox SID's were released (supposedly stiffer and greater than the last ones) and I still haven't made up my mind, budget isn't really an issue but I can't be bothered with servicing the bloody things every 10 minutes so its gotta be reliable. Lihgtweight would be nice but isn't the most important factor and its mainly XC and trail use. Its going on a Scott Spark frame if that makes any difference... so what do you guys think?
Fox and the new SID both look good, think I'd go for the new Reba though personally, basically a beefier SID, dual rebound circuit ie fast for small hits, slower on bigger hits, power bulge and lighter than this years reba. QR15 models available to I believe!!
Not that I feel the need for QR15's with my Reba SL 29ers and they are longer on the lowers than standard so wouldn't worry about it.
Dual air which gives you some fine tuning, but can be a hassle to get right, where as the fox is easy set the sag pretty much and ride.
Thanks for the advice, I'm buying it as a frame - I demo'd one with the F100's last year and loved it. Because the frame is 110mm travel I noticed that some 2009 models are coming with 120mm front forks - so now I'm even more confused as that brings the F120's into the equation as well!
I know the servicing on Rock Shox and Fox are both pretty good (Fox especially) so thats why I thouhgt I'd stick to those two. Hadn't thought about REBA's tbh (argghh! more choice!) Just bought some DT XR1450 wheels for it so not sure I wanna replace those already! so would need standard QR's
i'm a big fan of u-Turns (had Dukes, Revs & Recons) and love that you can wind them down if a long climb looms and then bang them up to full travel once you've reached the top to play on the way back down.
I have 85-130mm Revs on my older 80mm hardtail and the same travel Recons on my 100mm Kona Hoss which i just put on this week. Blow away the terrible Maguras they replaced.
As Dylan says, if money is no object, the rebas will be far lighter and can always be switched into different travel frames in the future if you change frames.
The Reba Dual Air U-turns are TEAM ie top of the price range, so think £400 area I guess More than I'm willing to spend for 15mm more travel, shame it would allow me to improve my bikes DH ability and Climbing at the same time.
Interesting people are hating the magura's only got to mess with 1 set so far, I liked the high pressure firm feel which due to a very linear ramp up still manages full travel atleast in theory.
But I don't really like feeling my forks move especially brake dive wise!!
