Hey Dyl, out of interest, what did you dislike about the Weirwolf so much? I ask because I am running one on the front at the mo (got it pretty cheap). It's been fine over summer, but I suspect as soon as it encounters any conditions worse than 'damp' it's going to clog very easily.
Dyl, i imagine that me, P-ness and John don't sit down whilst riding our bikes, we all push them to the limit whilst riding, where you're a more leisurely sit down and pedal kinda' rider.
So, person asking. how do you ride? are you out of the saddle ragging it, or sat down spinning? if the former, give some a go, if the latter still give some a go
the 29" is a LT ( low tread height ), so useless on anything other than hard pack shame biggest volume, and the 26" used to feel squirmy then it would role itself off the rim, which is when I gave up on it!!
WTB Timberwolf, 2.3 and 2.5 make a cracking mud / all rounder 2.3 likely better for mud, I ran the 2.5 for 2 winter seasons though
Wow just when I thought tyre choice couldn't get any more difficult .Apart from choosing tyres for specific conditions it seems I now have to choose the right tyres for the conditions and my weight and riding style.
Got the Isle of Man end to end race coming up in 2 weeks , what should I use 13 k of flat road at the start , steep climb , badly rutted moorland , fire roads , woodland singletrack and a 4k road climb uphill to finish , 75k in all , oh and I weigh 80kg and take it not too mental on the descents.
I aint that leisurely down stuff boy, up maybe abit slow but down I've been known to shift, the Speed kings kept trying to kill me, so ended up crawling down then still barely making it.
Neil, your terrain is too mixed, you need to take a selection out with you and change as required sorry!!
The issue is, too get the weight down the volume on the Conti tyres is bugger all, so if your used to a normal 2.3 volume wise, going back to a 1.8 volume is kinda tricky.
John, height and a volume estimate compared to Vert's or Gravitys or what ever else you've got fitted.

And Mike, John and you all have what in common ??
Similar riding styles and similar @11stone weight correct ??
You if ridden would likely tell me to buy SpeedKings infact you might of before i bought them, would that opinion of been the correct opinion, at the time, who knew, but later on WRONG totally horrible dangerous slow things to me.
Sorry if my opinion disagrees with you or john, but hey there it is.
Your opinion differs from mine and John's because our opinion comes from actually using the product where as yours does not. Go out, ride some and come back to report. Then I may take you seriously. Until then you are just waffling as usual.
And P-ness, your just a all products are great though must not say bad things about them kinda guy.
You'd of said, speedkings = GREAT and been WRONG!!!
And Anyone recommending SuperSonic uber weight weenie tyres with the thinnest sidewalls and reduced air volume compared to the protections, at trail centres / Morzine is just plain NUTS.
I'll add my two pence - been running a pair of 2.2 Mountain King Supersonic tyres all year and have found them to be absolutely STONKINGLY AWESOME! Would recommend them to anyone wanting a fast, light and good rolling tyre for trail centres etc
All the available evidence (including video and eye-witness accounts) suggest the contrary
I'll stick my neck out here and say that the vast majority of riders won't benefit from changing tyres unless they're using something extremely inappropriate in one direction or another (1.9in semi-slicks for downhill, 2.4in soft-compound treads for cyclepaths). Nearly everyone can go faster by riding better. Run what ya brung

I have not ridden Speed Kings so I am not going to comment on their performance.
You seem to (as usual) be missing my point. You are entitled to your own opinion but when you state that Mountain Kings are crap without actually ever riding them then it is not really a valid opinion is it?
Wow, never expected to spark a debate like this! Thanks for all the info guys and just so you know... I've ordered a pair from my LBS and will be testing them at coed y brenin in october so will update this thread with how I found em. I figured I just need to try em for myself and see how I get on. Tyres are evidently quite a 'personal' thing!! Cheers.
