I've put a review on here for the Hope 4 LED. The great thing about it is that once you get used to it, you are constantly changing the settings to give you adeaquate light for wherever you are, with battery conservation in mind. Obviously if you're out for a 1-2hr blat, then it's not so important, but having all four on is usually unnecessary and does burn the battery.
The head mount feels a bit heavy at first, but you soon get used to it. I always have it on the bar though as it does everything I need right there and its easier to change the five settings at speed.
Overall, its a lot of money, but it means that every time you night ride, you can see and it makes the rides so much more enjoyable. Therefore if you can afford it........go for it!
Another user of the Ayups here, (MTB kit one helmet , one bar mounted) very impressed, pisses over my old Hid and 4 LED Hope look alikey from Fonarik. The batteries are tiny!!!
And also meant to say, if you go for the £150 kit( if on a budget) and plonk it on your head, job's a good un. My mate has just the helmet set, he has since stopped using his L+M HID due to the quality of the beam pattern.
You can always upgrade later with another £95 to get another LED and 6 hour battery..
I dunno what Errrrmmm's eyesight is like Dan, but I think they are great. Personally, if I need that extra bit of light off line, I flick the handle bars at it. If all else fails you can put it on the helmet, but as I said earlier, I tend to be changing from 1 to 4 all the time as the terrain and speed changes and it's easier on the bars.
So tell us Ermmm, what is the spec of your L&M SECA?
No light is powerful enough for me on the bars, even trying to find some single track of the side of a fireroad with the 500lumen P7 is impossible without a head torch of some kind.
Seca something like from memory, 700 Lumens and 3 1/2 hour run time on high it used a stack of LED's and it puts out a penis and balls like spread of light, wide at the bottom and narrower down the trail without any real spill so it's just a wall of light in that area and nothing wasted, not seen 1 in the flesh but the MTBR guys are saying it leaves the Top Lupines for dead due to the custom reflector. £250 maybe though.
Lupine Tesla's are getting good write ups aswell for the money a P7 but the reflector gives it enough of a range to helmet mount.
It probably takes a certain kind of brain to see a penis and balls light show, when they're speeding through the woods! An almost Clarkson like description though!
Trouble with lights is that you always want more and once you get used to what you have, the next version out will always be more sexy. I don't tend to be looking for single track off the sides when I ride at night as I decide my route normally before I go out.
I'm sure theres other good lights out there but would say that mine do a great job.
