Tried every bike shop around here (eighteen, NWMBC, sett valley, high peak cycles...) and no one stocks them

Nearly everyone sings their praises so why doesn't anyone carry them

Have to try ordering one online

Saw one for sale in Bike Outlet in York on Sunday

If you can get a hold of a DLR headlock rather than an Azonic, then it's a fraction of the weight as it's alloy rather than a huge steel bolt.

because a propperly installed star nut is more than sufficient for preloading a bearing.

Kinda pointless, and if you think you need it, look at your stem or installation for the cause of the problem!

it's just that star nuts are a pain and I'm not bothered about weight

Then get something like a hed doctor instead, work just as well and completely transferrable. Lighter than a headlock too.

heard some bad reviews about those hed doctors though

ended up getting a headlock off the bay

Why are star nuts a pain?

They are cheap, lightweight, only need fitted once in a fork and never let you down.  Probably the most reliable bike part i have ever used.

its getting the thing in straight that worries me

never tried it but I can more or less guarantee that I'll make a balls up of it

Hope Head Doctor...it's the daddy. No more worries about getting an SFN in straight

Headlock's a great, those star things are crap, and the USE SAFET's are alright but they're made of the sofest metel known to man

Buy this and star nuts take 3 seconds to install perfect every time.

Still cheaper than a headlock!

I prefer a headlock, You know that its not going to fail....

and how many people have had correctly installed SFN failures? i know i've haven't
Show/hide user stats
yeah, I know, But whereas a SFN might fail, You know a headlock WONT fail.

LOL, yea, ok, so your headtube'll probably fail first

back to the original Q of why are they so hard to get hold off, well that was kinda answered in the first post: "Nearly everyone sings their praises" - demand must of out-stripped current supply.

i have headlocks on all my bikes, makes swapping forks around dead easy, and stops alot of the crap going you the steerer tube. They also allow you to put an extra spacer in if your steerer tube is to short, as you do not run out of bolt length!
