I have just bought an 09 spesh fsr xc comp. After 20 years riding various hard tales, and dreaming of going full sus for the last 10years, an opportunity arose, and after much looking around, I went for the spesh. Ideal bike if i could afford another £750 would be an orange 5, however with the current economic climate i did not stretch this far. The spesh has proved great fun, I am now beating my friends down anything with a remote gradient, and discovering a new confidence to attack trails, drop offs and down hills....great fun.

The bike has front and rear lock offs, which are essential as it will bob without. I have changed the tyres to bontranger mud x, and it now weights in at 30lbs without pedals. It is slightly heavier than my hard tale on the up, but really comes into its own on the downs. Various bits will need upgrading in time and I reckon I can shave another 4lbs off the weight with upgrades to wheels, cranks and fork in time, but for the next 12 months I will probably ride it as it is, and continue to enjoy. The rear shock is very easy to manage, and the front forks whilst heavy, get the job done. Brakes are great. Have fun ... I am

Really looked carefully at the cannondale prophet and rush, was ready to buy, and then spoke with a family friend and employee from a chain bike shop, who advised against as his experience of cannondales warranty policy (and his bike shop sold cannondales) was poor. I was really dissapointed to here this, however as full sus was new to me, I did not need the worry of poor warranty should anything fail, the feedback about speshs and warranties was excellent. Hence bought the spesh.

My first propoer bike was a 1990 cannondale hardtale, so would have loved to buy cannondale again.

Don't you listen to him Quinny!

It's true though, 'dale did used to have an AWFUL warranty department (IIRC it was less then 5 people for all of Europe) so things were slow. They have improved though, significantly - even helping me out with a warranty problem (or so I thought at the time) on a bike I got in the US.

You got that new bike fever?
