hi anybody out there got any advice or experience of rear mounted trailers i am looking to use it mainly to carry tools but would like to be able to use it for treks etc
Bob yak sold by orbit cycles (who's bikes are apparently shit but dont let that put you off). They are the dogs whats its when you have a heavy load such as one cmping trips. Cost a fair bit mind. See reviews section as well.
Not really a tip on buying one, but a warning when your using them - I used one for some time with 1 and occaisionally 2 kids (A Burley). watch them on steep down hill corners - the unbraked weight of the trailer can easily make the back-end wash out, since it pushes straight on the rear drop out. This is VERy pronounced when pushing.
I've recently bought a Chariot trailer for towing my two year old around the Canadian Rockies. It's fantastic and my daughter loves it. The trailer seems to be up to covering fairly rough trails and the handling is OK - though it sometimes makes the rear suspension less effective and prone to bouncing. The limiting factor tends to be my daughter, who protests loudly if I try anything too adventerous! I don't know if Chariot's are available back in the UK, but out here in Canada they are widely regarded as the best. (Being made in Calgary, however the Canadians may be slightly biased).
If anyone is interested, we've got a Bob Yak trailer with a bit of a crack in it (overloaded whilst on hire) It'll weld up easily, if you're so inclined. Yours for £50. Or a new one for £189 (no bag) Tim - Sideways Cycles.
