How long should the bearings last in my shimano hollowtech BB?

I've just done 1400miles and there is some play developing. Adjusting the cups has not worked so I am thinking it's new bearings time. Looking at the price of replacing the cups & bearings I am thinking of getting a hope ceramic hollowtech instead. anyone know what kind of milage I can expect from the hope bearings?

I use one bike for all, DMR switchback with Z150's up front, I ride XC and a bit of downhill and also comute everyday on it, 1000 of those miles were done off road.

any advice / help greatly appreciated

Trev

Anything from 4 days to 3 years from what I've seen posted about them.  It really depends on what conditions the bike's been ridden in, cleaning, maintenance etc

You can't adjust the bearings but it may be that the crank preload just needs adjusting.

Thanks, I'll have another look at them, though I think it's new BB time.

the hope bearings appear to be really easy to change, and at under 15 quid for replacements....

Yep I think my mind is made up. Will order a ceramic Hope BB from CRC today, and maybe a spare set of bearings just in case!

Nobby, checked the preload. made no difference still clunked away on the ride to work this morning.

CGD - where have you seen the bearings for sale, the only place I could find was selling them at 20 quid each, 30 for ceramic, which is barely any cheaper than just getting a replacement BB.
